VPUE Support for Faculty and Departments
The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
As the designated gateway to undergraduate education at Stanford, VPUE strives to connect students intellectually with the full range of our educational opportunities and to promote the active engagement of all faculty, instructors and staff with undergraduate students.
We support faculty and departments interested in enhancing undergraduate education by offering grants as well as unique teaching and mentorship opportunities in both academic and research contexts. More broadly, VPUE advocates for courses, programs, policies, and resources in support of liberal education, and supports the faculty, staff, and students engaged in it throughout the university. Through our Center for Teaching and Learning and other units that work with instructors, we provide support for effective teaching and learning across the curriculum. Finally, VPUE bears the responsibility for key undergraduate education functions, including delivering and overseeing requirements such as COLLEGE, the Writing Requirement, and the Ways of Thinking/Ways of Doing breadth requirement; administering governance bodies and processes established by the Faculty Senate (i.e., Academic Progress Review Board, the Breadth Governance Board, the Committee on Residential Learning); and convening conversations to share and gather information about undergraduate education from faculty and departments.
