Oversight Bodies

VPUE supports several faculty bodies that oversee university requirements and that have delegated authority from the Committee on Undergraduate Standards and Policies:

  • The Breadth Governance Board oversees the Ways of Thinking/Ways of Doing breadth requirement.
  • The First-Year Requirement Governance Board oversees the Civic, Liberal, and Global Education requirement.
  • The Committee on Residential Learning (CORL) provides faculty oversight of university theme houses, including Academic Theme Houses, Co-Ops, and Greek Houses.
  • The Writing and Rhetoric Requirement (WRR) Governance Board oversees the Writing in the Major requirement.

Advisory Boards

In addition, faculty advisory boards provide guidance to VPUE and its units and programs.

  • The Academic Advising Faculty Advisory Board provides high level faculty insight and guidance to Academic Advising. The Board plays a crucial role in shaping strategies, ensuring that Academic Advising delivers the highest quality support for students.
  • The Bass Council of Fellows includes all faculty appointed as Bass Fellows in Undergraduate Education and provides insights and counsel to the Vice Provost at quarterly meetings.
  • Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP) Faculty Executive and Program Advisory Committees The Executive Committee assists BOSP with program and curricular advice and oversight, including the review and selection of Faculty in Residence and short-term faculty-led program proposals. The BOSP Program Advisory Committees for each quarter-length center location assist each BOSP and center director with program and curricular advice and review, including the expansion of student and faculty participation.
  • The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Faculty and Lecturer Advisory Committee provides critical thought partnership to the center on its programs, services, and strategic initiatives, as well as academic oversight of CTL course offerings.
  • Introductory Seminars Advisory Board advises Stanford Introductory Studies about the IntroSems program.
  • Undergraduate Advisory Council (UGAC) the Undergraduate Advisory Council serves as the main faculty advisory body for the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE). The council plays a vital role in guiding the efforts of the VPUE to shape undergraduate education at Stanford.
