Legislation on Future of the Major at Stanford

Main content start

Approved by the Faculty Senate during its May 7, 2020 meeting, SenD#7804 mandates that the minimum requirements for the major curriculum for each Stanford major, inclusive of any required prerequisite courses, shall total at least 60 units of credit, and shall not exceed 100 units credit total. The reform was to take effect for AY2021-22.

Due to COVID-19, the Deans of the Schools of Engineering, Humanities and Sciences, and Earth proposed a one-year delay in the implementation of SenD#7804. This delay (SenD#7863) will apply to all undergraduate majors and the review period of 6 years set out in SenD#7804 will also be delayed by one year. You can find both SenD#7804 and SenD#7863 here.
