Mentorship Opportunities

Outside the Classroom
In addition to teaching, VPUE programs offer many opportunities to mentor students outside of the classroom. These mutually enriching connections are one of the most accessible ways for faculty and staff to participate in undergraduate education.
- Faculty mentors supervise students engaged in Undergraduate Research in all seven schools.
- Physicians offer undergraduates shadowing opportunities through SIMS (Stanford Immersion in Medicine Series).
- Faculty can mentor students in Community Engaged Learning opportunities such as an honors thesis or capstone, Cardinal Quarters, Alternative Spring Break, directed reading or research.
- The Stanford Summer Fellows Program (SSFP) provides a summer academic experience to help First-Generation and/or Low-Income (FLI) undergraduate students get a jump start on their second year at Stanford, and includes a half time introductory research experience mentored by Stanford faculty. Contact SSFP with questions.
Extensions of the Classroom
In addition, courses offered through Stanford Introductory Seminars provide faculty with support to mentor former students after the end of the program or quarter, extending the connections formed in these small group classes.
